The Alvin P. Flannes Summer Camp is a week long camp for Mississippi kids, ages 8-16, living with epilepsy. The campers attend free of charge and enjoy a great camp experience under the supervision of the staff of the Epilepsy Foundation of Mississippi, trained counselors, and nurses who are on site 24/7. The camp takes place at Timber Creek camp grounds in Scott County, MS.

To be eligible for the Alvin P. Flannes Summer Camp, a child must:
- Have a primary diagnosis of epilepsy
- Be ages 8 through 16
- Be able to feed, bathe, dress and toilet without assistance
- Work well in small groups

This presentation will also cover the origins and evolution of the Medical Home model, talking to your Primary Care Manager(PCM), what should be offered and the positive outcomes to having a Medical Home. About the presenter: Keishawna Smith is currently the Parent Consultant for the Mississippi Family to Family Health Information and Education Center at The University of Southern Mississippi Institute for Disability Studies and the Parent Coordinator for the Children’s Medical Program. Her goal is to help parents become better advocates for their children and their communities by helping them navigate the system and how to access resources. Her top priority is to make sure that parents are empowered so they can effectively be involved in every aspect of their child(ren)’s health, education and over all well-being. Keishawna is the mother of two children, Trinitee’ and De’Shawn, who both live with special health care needs and the wife of a retired disabled combat veteran, Sheldon.
