On May 2,2012 Mississippi lost one of our beloved H.O.P.E mentors and advocates for epilepsy due to complications from a seizure. Kelsey as well as so many others want to make a difference and change the way epilepsy is viewed. Raising awareness in the community is one way we will honor Kelsey and ALL the Mississippians that live with epilepsy. It will be 3 fun, family-friendly strolls across Mississippi that raises awareness as well as serves as a major fundraiser for the Epilepsy Foundation of Mississippi. These strolls will ensure money raised goes to help people with epilepsy. It is a leisurely walk around and it is not a mile run or 5k.
In a recent report conducted by the Institute of Medicine it concluded that at least 1 in 26 Americans will develop epilepsy at some point in their lifetime, and prevalence may be increasing. Unfortunately, just as many people die from complication from a seizure as do breast cancer. Both of these numbers are too high but there are treatments and cures for breast cancer while we are still fighting for a cure for seizures.
Please make your voices heard at one of the 3 strolls across Mississippi starting inNovember 3, 4 and wrapping up on November 10, 2012 in Flowood, MS. Let’s not lose another moment to seizures.
